YUVAN KEEPS KARTHI WAITING

Yuvan Shankar Raja is the music director of the Karthi-starrer Naan Mahaan Alla. The musician has completed major part of work for the film barring a few. Composing and rerecording is on in full swing and Yuvan’s job is expected to be done in a few days’ time. Once Yuvan completes his work, the music launch date of NMA will be announced, sources say. In all probability, the film will hit the screens sometime in July, if things move on the right pace, we are told.

SAMEERA’S BEST ROLE IS WITH SURIYA!

Ask Sameera Reddy what her best role till date is and the actress replies that it is in Vaaranam Aayiram, where she is paired opposite Suriya. Though, Sameera dies midway through the film, her performance in it was so strong. Sameera says that the role in VA is something she could connect to and it was so real. In Hindi she likes her role in Yeh Hausla. Sameera is currently busy with a Gautham Menon project and the Hindi flick Red Alert: The War Within, in which she plays a naxalite.

GAUTHAM OUT… WHO DIRECTS AJITH’S 50TH FILM?

Cloud Nine’s proposed latest announcement will mark an end to the rumors surrounding Ajith’s 50th movie. The production company that owns Ajith’s call sheets is on the verge of producing a movie, to be directed by Venkat Prabhu. Set in the backdrop of Mumbai’s Dharavi slums, this movie has been titled Mangatha.

On the other hand, Cloud Nine also owns the call sheet of Gautham Menon. Although there’s no clarity about the earlier speculated Gautham Menon–Ajith venture, looks like a Gautham–Cloud Nine production is in the cards.

SINGAM MOVIE PREVIEW

The last hurrah of the summer vacations is here. During the last weekend of the two-month long celebration for school students, comes Suriya’s twenty-fifth film, Singam arrives. Well, there has been a buzz around this film ever since it was announced a few months back. The obvious reason for that being the star cast of the film. Suriya’s red hot run at the box office has made each of his films enter theaters with more and more expectations tagged to them each time round. Add to that the fact that the film is being directed by Hari, the rural action specialist, Singam automatically became one of the biggest draws of the summer.

So, what is Singam all about? Anyone who has watched TV over the past one week will have a fair idea of what to expect from the movie. Suriya appearing as a cop for the first time since Kaakka Kaakka is the USP of Singam. Everyone will be eager to see whether Suriya is able to reprise the same glory that he garnered with the portrayal of Anbuchelvan, IPS. This time round, he will be playing Duraisingam. And, from the look of it, Duraisingam

will be a totally different cop from Anbuchelvan. If Anbuchelvan was the quiet, but lethal cop who believed more in getting the job done rather than talking too much, Duraisingam seems to be the daringly outspoken type who lets his adversaries know what they are up against. There have been a few parallels drawn against Duraisingam and the unforgettable Aarusamy, played by Vikram in Saamy.

Hari’s penchant for action is well known. All his films basically belong to the action genre and he has surprisingly delivered good products each time without deviating too much from a path that has become a bit predictable. Only his last film, Seval, was a bit of a disappointment and he will be looking forward to erase those memories by delivering a huge hit in Singam. And, may it be third time lucky for the Hari-Suriya combination. It is not that their two earlier films, Aaru and Vel have done badly at the box office. But, this pair is still waiting for their first big hit.

On the other aspects of the film, Vivek makes an appearance in a Hari film for the first time since Saamy, where he had rocked. It has been surprising that Hari took such a long time getting back to Vivek, but he has kept delivering some good comedy with Vadivelu in all his films. The comedy track of Singam will be even more hilarious than that of Saamy, claimed Vivek during the audio launch. Let’s wait and see. Anushka is one of the big draws of Singam. Her presence in Kollywood seems to be growing by the day. One big project after the other has been following her and let’s see where Singam takes her.

Devi Sri Prasad’s music has hit the right note with the audiences and Sun Pictures has taken care that everyone in Tamil Nadu knows about the film. The promos at first did create quite a flutter with Suriya uttering one of the loudest and most bombastic dialogues of his career. And, there also seems to be plenty of high adrenalin action. Come Friday, the Singam will roar.

A letter to Univercell Vijay Awards Team

Univercell Vijay Awards tasted a phenomenal success in its fourth edition. The event was organized and executed in a grand manner.

One really has to congratulate the Vijay Awards Team not just for the manner in which the event was executed but for staging honesty in selecting the probable and winners.

When an actor of Prakash Raj’s caliber could speak his heart out in a function like this then you can definitely take a lot of credit for your honesty.

People will certainly have no questions (or if very few) questions in terms of awarding the best.

But I am writing here to give a suggestion to add another category to honor one of the true pillars of Tamil cinema.

Yes, an Award for the Best Producer of the Year.

You can say that there is a category named “Best Film of the Year” where the producers and few star casts are called to the stage and honored. But how much credit a producer takes from it?

Yes it is a debatable one but I firmly believe Best Film should be considered as credit to team effort than just to producers and a separate award to Producers would be a fair one than just holding the award for the best film.

Sometime I feel producers are just been treated as financiers by Media and Fans.

Money is not just an answer for their sleepless nights and if we could honor their efforts by bring them to limelight then I believe Tamil Cinema will head in a better path than the current one.

If there is room for producers in Favorite Awards as well as Jury Awards category then one can really feel that their efforts are been recognized.

One doesn’t need to get the award but if a producer sees his name in the probable list and feels that his name and efforts are been debated by fans and jury members then definitely he will breathe a lot easier and this will boost and motivate him.

And I have another suggestion too, rather than suggestion I just put it as a question, how would it be if Univercell Vijay Awards could grant “Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan Award for Excellence in Indian Cinema” to a producer in its fifth edition?

The palatial Annai Illam in the Chevalier Sivaji Street, T Nagar, Chennai is famous for more than one reason. Firstly, it was where the legend of Tamil cinema Sivaji Ganesan lived and it still continues to be the abode for his family members. Secondly the Lord Ganesha temple in front of the house is also very popular and Sivaji Ganesan always paid his obeisance to the deity whenever he was in town and whenever he started a new project. The tradition is being followed by his descendants too and the temple had its consecration this morning which was a grand affair. This function was attended by Super star Rajinikanth, Ajithkumar, Radhika along with other family members of Sivaji household and from the film fraternity.
