Massive opening for Avan Ivan

Jun 17, 2011 Bala, Arya and Vishal couldn’t have asked for more. Yes, Avan Ivan and its Telugu version Vaadu Veedu, which released today, took a massive opening. The online booking for the first three days was over within the first few hours the booking opened. This left many fans with no other option but to wait in the long queues at the theatres since morning to get their tickets. While some were lucky to get their tickets for the show, several others had to return home empty-handed. This is not the state in Tamil Nadu alone! In Andhra Pradesh movie buffs from Guntur, Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Nellore, Rajamundhury and other places also rued that they could not get tickets for a single show.

Vijay is the reason for the change

Jun 17, 2011 Director Seeman has said that Vijay is the reason for the change in government in Tamil Nadu. The fiery director has said that it was Vijay who has helped in overthrowing the DMK government for the atrocities and corruption they had committed. Seeman stated that though Vijay did not campaign for the AIADMK in person, he ensured that his father SA Chandrasekar and his fans worked for the AIADMK’s victory. It may be noted here that Vijay had extended his support for the party during the elections and later met the AIADMK chief J Jayalalitha at her residence to congratulate on her astounding victory.

Jun 17, 2011 Answering a question on which actor he would like to share the screen space with, if a film offered to him is a multi-starrer, Jayam Ravi has said that he would love to star alongside Kamal Haasan. Jayam Ravi has said that he is not averse to multi-starrers as it has become very common these days because the young generation stars share a good and healthy friendship. The star said that currently the shooting of Aadhi Bhagwan is in progress and this film may most probably be released by this year end. He revealed that his next project in the pipeline is Boologam.

Taapsee to launch her sister

Jun 17, 2011 Taapsee is very fond of her little sister, Shagun Pannu, who is currently in college. Since Shagun also has dreams of making it as an actress, Taapsee has decided to help her out. After, all she has done very well for herself in the film industry having delivered big hits in Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. The icing on the cake of course is David Dhawan's Hindi film in which she has a good role. In addition to this, she is working in a couple of Telugu films and has Vandhan Vendraan with Jiiva. Shagun has done a little modelling, so she is no stranger to the camera. Taapsee is looking out for the perfect launch pad which will present her sister properly. She also feels it will be safest to introduce Shagun with one of the biggest stars of the day. We must say, Taapsee seems to be the perfect big sister.

Vaanam crosses 50 day mark

Jun 17, 2011 Vaanam, the remake of Telugu super hit Vedam, directed by Krish, has crossed the 50-day milestone. It has set the cash registers ringing and is being touted as one of the biggest hits of the year. The multi-starrer cast of Vaanam with Silambarasan, Bharath, and Anushka must be celebrating. STR who says he watches all of Telugu superstar Allu Arjun's films says that he knew that he had to make Vedam in Tamil and immediately made the suggestion to VTV Ganesh who agreed. And the rest as they say is history. Looks like Silambarasan's instincts were bang on this time.

Mankatha is inspired!

Jun 16, 2011 Venkat Prabhu has finally opened up on the inspiration for his films and even gave us a juicy little tidbit on Mankatha. Chennai 600028 was inspired from real life characters, Saroja from a whole lot of thrillers, Goa from a host of romcoms and Mankatha... he left that one dangling. According to Venkat Prabhu, every work of art is inspired from another and writers and directors thrive on such inspiration. In Mankatha, Ajith's character has shades of grey, Venkat Prabhu confided and his performance is superlative. Given the fact that his look for the film is inspired by George Clooney, we are thinking Ajith is going to be one sexy crook in Mankatha.

Aadhi's Andhra tryst!

Jun 16, 2011 Aadhi's Ayyanar is being dubbed in Telugu as Vastadh. Meera Nandan is the heroine in this film. Directed by Rajamithran, the film tells about an ordinary man who has to fight injustice on an extraordinary level. Music is by Thaman. This film will be dubbed and released in Telugu as Vastadh in July. It is felt that the film has what it takes to appeal to the Telugu audience. The audio release will take place shortly. If this film clicks, Aadhi will be able to broaden his fan base considerably.

Salman Khan wins over Tamil fans

Jun 16, 2011 The audio launch of Markandeyan starring Sabarish, son of FEFSI Vijayan was a huge success. Some of the biggest stars in the country were present. Salman Khan, Vijay, Jayam Ravi and Shriya Saran graced the event. Salman Khan enchanted the star-studded audience with his jovial manner. Jayam Ravi was raving about him and saying that he is very cool and down-to-earth without any starry airs. The Bollywood Superstar was also seen exchanging a few words and laughs with our Southern Superstar, Vijay. We are hoping they were talking about doing a bi-lingual soon. Everybody had a good time, needless to say.

Asin has a smash hit

Jun 16, 2011 All those who have written off Asin's Bollywood career as non - existent can think again. Her film with Salman Khan, Ready may have been panned by the critics but is smashing box office records and is barreling towards a big finish. It is already inching towards the 100 crore line, two weeks into its release. If it continues raking in the moolah this way and there is no reason it shouldn't, given that the film is attracting repeat audiences, it might just set a record of its own. Currently, however, in terms of box-office collections, Golmaal 3, Aamir Khan's Ghajini and 3 Idiots, and Salman's own Dabaang are ahead and it will be intersting to see if Ready will edge them out. No matter what happens, Asin's future in Bollywood is looking rosy. Ghajini gave her a big launch and Ready has consolidated her position. Her decision to be extremely choosy has paid off big time.

Priyamani second to Shruthi Haasan?

It is well known that an actress can do very well for herself in the Telugu industry as it is the second largest film fraternity in India, and they are generous when it comes to paychecks. The national award winner has decided to focus on Telugu films for now and really make hay while the sun shines. The dusky beauty has Kshetram with Jaggapathi Babu but she is not satisfied. She feels she might start getting offers only next to older male stars so she has decided to do films opposite the younger generation. Priyamani had a hit film with Jr. NTR, Yamadonga and she has called him up to request him to give her an opportunity in his next film with Boyapatti Seenu. Shruti Hassan has already been roped in, but there is a second female character and Priyamani feels that it will be perfect for her. It remains to be seen whether Jr. NTR will take her up on her offer.

Two more heroines for Silambarasan?

Jun 17, 2011 Silambarasan's next is with Nelson and is called Vettai Mannan. Deeksha Seth will play one of the female leads in this film. Apparently there are two more heroine spots that need to be filled. STR had suggested Asin but Nelson wants someone who is just two or three films old. Bubbly Piaa Bajpai who impressed in Ko is hot stuff at present and is in strong contention for one of the heroine roles. The other role may go to Amrita Rao, the elder sister of Preetika, who was seen in Chikku Bukku with Arya. But Amrita is extremely choosy when it come to giving the green signal for South Indian projects. She has done only one Telugu film with Mahesh Babu which was a huge hit. She was flooded with offers after that but she is yet to sign anything in these parts. If she is not finalized for the role, others from Bollywood will be considered. Silambarasan plays a killer in this film, which is being shot in Chennai and Brazil. Jai also has a good role in this film.

Kamal Hassan to do a Tom Cruise

Kamal Haasan's next project, Viswaroopam is going to be a biggie. It is rumored that his character would be similar to Hannibal, the psychopath cannibal, immortalized by Anthony Hopkins. But apparently this is not true and Viswaroopam is closer to Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible series, complete with all kinds of cool spy stuff like sexy gadgets, fast and furious action, and stolen national secrets. This is not new ground for Kamal as he has already attempted it in Vikram, a movie many consider as ahead of its time. Kamal feels that with today's technology, a film in this genre will click big time. Sonakshi Sinha is to be the heroine but since the shoot which was supposed to commence in June has been postponed to August since Selvaraghavan stepped down, she is having trouble juggling her dates. Sources, however, says that she will work out her dates.

Nanban Update

Jun 17, 2011 Vijay, Jiiva, and Ileana are currently shooting for Nanban in Chennai. They are scheduled to work in the city for another week and then the next leg of the shoot will commence. Director Shankar intends to shoot the songs next. Word is that the unit will fly to Spain to shoot the songs in some of the country's hot spots. Shankar has modified the script to suit Tamil sensibilities, so those who have already seen 3 Idiots will find a few surprises. Nanban is slotted for a Diwali release and it is hoped that work will be wrapped up by then. Insiders have said that Vijay's performance in this film is simply superb as he has slipped into his character completely. Also, he is looking fitter and fresher than ever. The other surprise package is supposed to be Sathyaraj and the buzz is this film will be yet another milestone in his career.
